Some people with AS may not actually be fully aware that their sensory style is actually very different to an NT. Having a different sensory make-up can be very disabling if not taken seriously. Sensory Integration programmes do exist, how readily is unclear. For NT individuals it can often be hard to comprehend the unusual impact of sensory input on Aspies. Don’t let your needs become ignored or not respected. Assert your requirements to cope in a certain sensory environments. Don’t tolerate ignorance.

This could be due to non-verbal communication difficulties. Some Asperger’s individuals are extremely hard to read by their outside presentation, meaning that they may show no signs at all of depression, appearing cheerful in their facial expression, body posture and tone of voice. Equally, there are other individuals who are more expressive but struggle to communicate how they feel and what they want despite being verbally fluent. Consequently, a number of misunderstandings can occur leading a person’s needs to be over- or underestimated even by those who seem to know her well.
